Fleet Captain is a rank above Captain and below Commodore/Rear Admiral (Lower Half). Fleet Captain is used mainly as an Honorific title in lieu of promotion to a flag rank.
RESPONSIBILITIES[]
Fleet Captains in Lima Fleet serve as either senior Staff Officers or as Task Force Executive Officers. They are senior in rank and authority to all Captains and Colonels, but junior to Flag and General Officers.
INSIGNIA[]
As described by the Starfleet Field Manual's protocols for uniforms and insignias, the insignia for a Fleet Captain shall be five (5) gold circular pips arranged in a line on the officer's right collar on all uniforms.
The Insignia denotes the officers seniority over Captains, and since it is not an enclosed box insignia, the officer does not hold a flag rank.
